AIRPORT HISTORY

Carson City Airport (CXP) is situated on 531 acres 3 miles north of the State Capital building. CXP was initially established in 1928 on 76 acres of land. CXP is the airport of the state capital of Nevada and functions as a general aviation reliever airport for the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The Carson City Airport is a 20-minute drive south of Reno conveniently located off Interstate 580. The east shore of Lake Tahoe is just a 10-minute drive from the state capital. The Carson City airport is ideally situated to visit both Reno and Lake Tahoe.

CXP is listed in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) and receives federal funding under the Airport Improvement Program (AIP). Since 1982, CXP has received over $40 million in federal funding; $30 million since 2003.

CXP is home to over 300 based aircraft and 200 aircraft hangars. Additionally, CPX has a flight school, two museums, a Part 145 FAA-certified avionics repair station, a repair station, two air-craft restoration companies, and a certified aircraft appraiser/broker.
