HISTORY
In 2008 construction of the new Runway and Taxiways began an ongoing 20 year Carson City Airport Master Plan that was approved in 2001. The primary objective of the Airport Master Plan is to develop and maintain a long-term development program which will yield a safe, efficient, economical, and environmentally acceptable air transportation facility, and to provide economic prosperity for the community. The accomplishment of this objective required the evaluation of the existing airport and a determination of what actions should be taken to maintain an adequate, safe, and reliable airport facility which meets the needs of the area.

The Runway was lengthened to 6500 feet with 6100 usable(400 foot overruns). The reconstruction allows larger aircraft to operate from the airport in a much safer environment.

Apron Reconstruction
The main and north aprons will commence reconstruction in 2012 in three phases. Along with the rehab of Taxiways B and C, the construction will take 3 years to complete.
SAFETY ASPECT
Safety is the primary consideration for the Carson City Airport during construction. To ensure all safety and security measures are maintained, the Carson City Airport Authority in conjunction with PBS&J Engineering (airport engineer) has prepared a “Construction Safety Plan.” The purpose of this plan is to provide the utmost attention to aviation safety and operational practices and requirements during construction of the airport.
For additional information concerning the Construction Safety Plan, a copy will be available for review in the Carson City Airport Manager’s office located in the terminal building at the airport.
